The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has said in its reply submitted to an accountability court that no evidence was found against Khawaja Saad Rafique and Khawaja Salman Rafique in the Paragon Society scandal while the promissory witnesses also refused to testify.

NAB submitted a written response to the acquittal requests of the Khawaja brothers in the accountability court in Lahore, requesting to decide on acquittal petitions according to law.

According to the report submitted by NAB to the court, after the investigation involving the three absconding suspects, fresh testimonies and evidence came out, after which the charges levelled against the Khawaja brothers regarding the Paragon Society would have ended by themselves.

NAB wrote in the reply that an investigation report was being prepared on the fresh evidence which would be submitted to the court after the approval of the competent authority.

The report stated that the promissory witness and the then chairman of Paragon Society, Qaiser Amin Butt, deviated from their earlier statement while the evidence of another accused proved that the Khawaja brothers were not partners in the Paragon Society.

The anti-graft body will hear the acquittal pleas of the Khawaja brothers on December 13.
