Bollywood is all about recycling old classic songs now; and more often than not, the remixes disappoint fans. This time, Pakistan’s pop icon Nazia Hassan's iconic track Aap Jaisa Koi got a revamped version for the upcoming film, An Action Hero, starring Ayushmann Khurrana — and fans call the new song an “atrocity."
The revamped version, sung by Zahrah S Khan and Altamash Faridi, was released on YouTube on Saturday. It also marks the comeback of the Chaiyya Chaiyya dancer Malaika Arora. Hassan's vocals were initially picturised on Zeenat Aman, and late actors Feroz Khan and Vinod Khanna in the 1980 Bollywood film Qurbani. Aap Jaisa Koi was a touchstone track in the disco movement back in the day.
However, the effort to recreate the heavily auto-tuned newer remixed version has not only felt “unnecessary” but also “criminal” for fans. Social media users took to Twitter to rant about how the Indian industry should stop “ruining classics” and focus on creating new music instead and how the originals remain "unmatched."
another masterpiece being copied by bollywood anyways this will always remain unmatched >> https://t.co/QQzfRulEYK pic.twitter.com/82lPZ9wC1C

“Can we please, for the love of god, STOP fiddling with the classic old songs please?” wrote a user. “With such immense talent in our music industry, we need new music to jam to and not a copy of the songs we’ve already heard and loved!”
You DID not!!! Can we please, for the love of god, STOP fiddling with the classic old songs please? 😭😭

With such immense talent in our music industry we need new music to jam to and not a copy of the songs we’ve already heard and loved! #AapJaisaKoi https://t.co/GiF54jy7tD

Without directing any hate towards Arora, some fans even commented on how the song only belonged to Aman and that Bollywood should leave her songs alone for no one can do justice to the dance movements better than she did.
Why do they keep remaking Zeenat Aman songs ? I mean no disrespect to the new versions but the originals still look fresh and current whether it be Laila, Dum maro dum, Hai Hai Yeh Majboori & now Aap Jaisa koi 2022 ki Zeenat Aman Khud Zeenat Aman hai ❤️

I love Malaika, but I’m sorry, she can’t top Zeenat Aman here. Can you imagine anyone but Malaika in Chhaiya Chhaiya? Exactly. Bollywood is tanking.
Some songs are better left untouched!

Aap Jaisa Koi by Nazia Hassan + Biddu combo is one of them. The former must be shifting in her grave listening to the recreation by Tanishk Bagchi.
Not just content the current phase in Bollywood is in its lowest ebb in terms of music.
A user even commented on how they feel like they have to listen to the original song to “calm” themselves down after the “atrocious” remix.
aap jaisa koi remake is absolutely deplorable, they have ruined Nazia Hassan’s royalty. I’m going to listen to the original song the entire day to calm myself.

The absolutely audacity to remake #AapJaisaKoi. No hate to Malaika but Zeenat cannot be outdone. Also what is that voice? Need to listen to Nazia Hassan's version now to calm down.

For Hassan’s die-hard fans back in Pakistan, the remix felt like a “personal attack.” They wrote, “Nazia Hassan’s songs are very personal to me, especially Aap Jaisa Koi. You all must stop digging your claws into every iconic song and ruin it for the public!” They continued, “The newer version does not even have the charm or the vibe! they have completely ruined the song! t-series needs to be held back!”
nazia hassan songs are v personal to me esp. aap jaisa koi - y'all need to stop digging your claws into every iconic song & ruin it for the public! the newer version does not even have the charm or the vibe! they have completely ruined the song! t-series needs to be held back!

Earlier this year, Bollywood upset Pakistani fans after recreating Abrar ul Haq's Nach Punjabun in JuggJugg Jeeyo, and it seems like they're not stopping anytime soon. Fans think the industry is "tanking" in terms of new musical content.
Khurrana's thriller flick, An Action Hero, follows the story of a youth icon and superstar, Maanav, who was at the peak of his career under the age of 30 before he gets caught in a film set accident. The film also stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Jitendra Rai and Mirabel Stuart in prominent roles.
An Action Hero is slated to hit theatres on December 2.
