Punjab Health Secretary Dr Ahmed Javed Qazi on Monday reviewed steps taken to purchase new linear accelerators for treatment of cancer patients in the Mayo and Jinnah hospitals.

Additional Secretary Shahida Farrukh, Chief Planning Officer Abdul Haq Bhatti, Allama Iqbal Medical College Principal Dr Nadeem Hafeez and Dr Abrar from Mayo Hospital gave a briefing on the issue during a meeting.

Dr Qazi said complete transparency would be ensured in the process of purchasing he equipment for the treatment of cancer in both the hospitals in Lahore.

He directed the officials concerned to ensure compliance with the rules and regulations in the process of purchasing the linear accelerators and said that not even a single penny of the public would be wasted. The government would take further decisions in this regard, he added.

After the purchase of linear accelerators, cancer patients will get the best treatment facilities in the Mayo Hospital and Jinnah Hospital, he added.

The secretary instructed the administration of the Jinnah Hospital to present the details to the Board of Directors.
