KARACHI:

Bin Qasim police have registered a case against more than 24 miscreants who opened fire on a police party that had tried to stop illegal occupation of state land in Pipri area.

Land mafia operatives attacked police for stopping the construction of an illegal restaurant on government land at Sindhi Goth in Pipri town within the limits of Bin Qasim police station in the early hours of Sunday. Outnumbered, the police party comprising a dozen officials was forced to retreat under fire yet they succeeded in arresting two armed suspects.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Bin Qasim police station SHO Malik Ashraf said that land mafia and drug dealers have built illegal houses and shops in Papri Sindh Goth. On Saturday night, the police received information that the land grabber and drug dealer were occupying a huge place and building a hotel, on which 12 officers and officials in the police station arrived in a mobile to end the encroachment, but as soon as the police officials reached the spot, the land mafia operatives attacked the police officers and officials.

The miscreants caught the policemen and tortured them while setting fire to the motorcycle of a policeman and started firing indiscriminately, as a result of which two bullets hit the SHO's mobile van, but fortunately no police officer or official came under the fire. The police also closed the front and fired back at the miscreants.

Later, on the order of SSP Malir Irfan Bahadur, police officials along with SHOs from other police stations of Malir distric reached the spot. Seeing the heavy presence of the police, the miscreants took to heels.
