‘Revival of education process’ discussed at global forum

Sindh minister attends emergency meeting of Unicef Education Partner Group via video link

KARACHI:

Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy, Syed Sardar Ali Shah attended an emergency meeting of Unicef Education Partner Group on Climate induced emergencies in Pakistan and the Horn of Africa through a video Link on Tuesday.

The meeting discussed the revival of education process which badly affected due to natural catastrophe caused by climate change.

During the meeting, Sindh minister shared the details of the educational losses caused by recent floods and torrential rains in Sindh province with the international community.

He informed that over two million children’s education was affected during the natural calamity in the province in which 46 per cent girls are included. H

e informed the global donor community that 20,602 school buildings have been damaged in the province and school children cannot be forced to sit in the dilapidated buildings.

The minister further said, “We have to focus on planning climate changeresilient school building construction in future so that they could bear the harshness of climate change.” He said that the biggest challenge is to restore the learning process at this time and for this, we need 20,000 tents to start the educational process in tent classes.

Meanwhile, international community praised the flood response of Sindh government in the UNICEF Education Partner Group emergency meeting and commented that due to availability of accurate data of losses, it will help rebuild the education infrastructure in the province.
