‘Wanted mugger’ killed in alleged police encounter
A suspected mugger was fatally wounded in a shoot- out with Pak Colony police near Mewa Shah Cemetery on Wednesday night.
Police are looking for his accomplice who managed to flee while taking advantage of the darkness, according to Muhammad Ashfaq, SHO Pak Colony police station.
The SHO claimed that a handgun with four bullets, one mobile phone, cash, and a motorcycle were recovered from the slain mugger whose body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for legal formalities.
The slain bandit has been identified as Ijaz Shah, 30. The slain bandit was wanted to police in the killing of a police official and a citizen during a robbery on October 19.
While sharing details of the incident, the SHO said that a citizen withdrew money from a bank branch near Bara Board within the limits of Pak Colony police station.
Four muggers on two motorcycles pulled up near him to snatch the money, but the citizen offered resistance on which the robbers shot him dead and fled.
A Shaheen Force party chased them, but one of them opened indiscriminate fire on the
chasers, killing one of the cops. They managed to flee with the looted money. The
slain civilian was identified as Shakeel Ahmed Khan, 39, while the deceased Shaheen Force cop was identified as Nihal, 40.
On the night between August 20 and 21, the CTD managed to trace and arrest one of the bandits, identified as Gulzar Ali, for his role in the killing of Nihal and Shakeel. He revealed the identities of his accomplices during investigations.
Meanwhile, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) claims to have arrested two suspected criminals, including the leader of an organised gang of criminals, after a shoot-out triggered during a raid on their den in Baldia Town.
They were wanted to police in several cases of murder, attempted murder, and police encounters, according to police.
According to the CTD spokesman, the arrested suspects were identified as Shabbir Ahmed alia Shabira and Abdul Latif. Handguns were recovered from the scene after the exchange of fire.
The spokesman added that Shabir, alias Shabira, is the leader of an organised criminal group who unleashed a reign of terror in Baldia. The suspects had shot dead their colleague in the limits of SITE B police station on October 9. The video footage of the deadly shooting went viral on social media.
