People habitual of taking narcotics through injections are more likely to be infected by diseases, including the life-threatening disease Aids.
The Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (Aids), a chronic, potentially life-threatening condition, is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that can hit the addicts when they use syringes infected with the virus, said Dr Mubashir Malik, of the Naye Zindagi Trust, at a district Aids Council meeting in Muzaffargarh on Friday.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Ameer Bakhsh Malik, DHO Dr. Asif Mahmood, In charge of the TB programme and others were also present at the meeting.
The CEO of Health said that the Health Department had been making all-out efforts for elimination of Aids from the district and commended the Trust for its contributions in this direction.
Dr Mubashir Malik briefed the officials on steps taken for prevention of Aids, saying that the Naye Zindagi Trust extended advisory help to those who used injections to take narcotics so that they did not contract Aids or any other infections.
