Human Rights Minister Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada on Wednesday told the National Assembly that they could no longer afford to turn its face away from the ground realities in the country.
He maintained that the institutions including the army and judiciary had failed to protect the country.
The minister claimed that how the country was used for foreign interference, the manner in which selected people were brought into parliament, the extension issue as well as the growing intolerance in Punjab and the massive encroachment of land in the province, all of this could not had been possible without the connivance of the institutions.
Pirzada said he could still see faces in the House that were present in 1993.
He further noted that the country was being criticised by the world over its human rights violations.
The minister lashed out at the PTI, saying that the people were dying of hunger and its chief was threatening the institutions.
“The way money is being used in the elections, is there any heir of this country?” he asked.
Pirzada claimed that those who were subjected to atrocities were not receiving justice from courts.
He added that if these matters would not be discussed in the House, then tomorrow we would receive the news that a Shia or Baloch had been killed.
“We should not be considered so weak,” he said.
The minister cautioned that parliament should also think about these issues before it was too late.
He stressed the need for empowerment of parliament with the focus to perform its role as per the real spirit of the Constitution and resolve the issues of the people.
Pirzada said that all institutions should perform their role as per the Constitution and protect the interests of the country.
He also responded to Balochistan's issues raised by BNP-M chief Akhtar Mengal.
The minister said that the grievances of Balochistan should be resolved on a priority basis.
He said that interests of country should be protected rather than raising hue and cry over petty issues.
The minister said parliament must take notice and protect the interests of the country because it had the real representation of the nation.
