NA passes bill for decision in inheritance cases in one year

ISLAMABAD:

The National Assembly unanimously passed on Tuesday a bill to amend the Code of Civil Procedure (CCP), making it mandatory for the civil courts to decide the decide cases about inheritance within one year.

The National Assembly resumed its session at the Parliament House with Deputy Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani in the chair. The House transacted private members’ business during which several bills were passed.

The Code of Civil Procedure Amendment Bill 2021 was moved by Syed Javed Hasnain and approved unanimously. According to the bill, Hasnain told the house, the civil judges would be obliged to make decisions in inheritance cases within one year.

The house also passed the PMDC Reorganisation Bill. The bill gives the prime minister the authority to form the council and seeks affidavit from all its members before taking charge regarding conflict of interest.

Besides, the lawmakers unanimously approved a bill related to drug and substance control introduced by Qadir Mandukhel. The house also unanimously passed the Registration Act 1907 and the Federal Teaching Institute 2021 Repeal Bill.

Several bills were also introduced, which were referred to the relevant committees. These include the CrPC (Amendment) Bill, the Constitution (Amendment) Bill [Amendment in Article-204, and 209], the Muslim Family Laws (Amendment) Bill, the Anti-terrorism (Amendment) Bill, and The National Commission on the Rights of Child (Amendment) Bill.

On the point of objection, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan MQM-P) member Kishwar Zehra protested against non-inclusion of her resolution about renaming the Islamabad International airport after former prime minister Liaquat Ali Khan in the agenda.

She said that a resolution to rename the airport after Benazir Bhutto was passed during the debate on the flood situation. “It is unfair not to include my resolution in the agenda,” the lawmaker said. Later the proceedings were adjourned till Wednesday morning.
