CM may put changes in SLGA Act before cabinet

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved a summary for further changes in the Sindh Local Government Amendment Bill which will come into effect in a few days in the form of ordinance.

A summary moved by the Sindh Local Government and Housing and Planning Department states that "it is proposed that the Chief Minister may like to consider the proposed amendments in the Sindh Local Government Act- 2013 and may be placed before the Provincial Cabinet through circulation for consideration and further necessary action as deemed fit."

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved the draft and as per the suggestion of the Law Department, it has been decided to send the bill as an ordinance to the governor for final approval after which it would be implemented throughout the province of Sindh immediately.

After making incorporating the amendments in the bill, the draft will be approved by the assembly. Under the Local Government Amendment Bill, the mayor will be the ex-officio Chairman of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA).

Similarly, elected mayors of the municipal committees of Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana will be the ex-officio chairmen of the development authorities of the respective cities.

The mayor of Karachi will also be the ex-officio chairman of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board and a member of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board.

The summary stated that the Sindh Local Government Act after the amendment will come into effect in a few days after the approval of the Governor. For the first time in Sindh, the formula for the award of the Provincial Finance Commission (PFC) has been changed and includes provisions for the Union Council Chairman, Town Committee Chairman and Chairman of Town Municipal Corporation.
