RAWALPINDI:

In view of the considerable reduction in electricity bills, the government has decided to transition all government institutions including the commissioner’s office, deputy commissioner’s office, CPO, RPO, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA), Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) and 32 police stations toward solar energy in Rawalpindi District.

Rs500 million have been allocated for this purpose in the initial phase following which WASA’s all 450 tube wells will also be shifted to solar energy in a phased manner. With this initiative, these institutions and the Punjab government will save billions of rupees annually. It has been decided to launch the project in November.

The district administration and the authorities of all these institutions have started preparations for this project in which solar energy devices will be officially installed in public institutions.

When contacted, PHA Chairman Asif Mehmood told The Express Tribune that government institutions are being shifted to solar energy to save on electricity bills. The WASA sources also confirmed that this project was prepared last year and was now going to be implemented.
