PESHAWAR:

A 12-day vaccination campaign has been officially launched in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) to protect children aged 9 months to 15 years from typhoid.

The campaign will continue from October 3 to October 15. Provincial Health and Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Khan Jhagra formally inaugurated the campaign at the Police and Services Hospital, Peshawar.

At the inauguration ceremony, the new typhoid conjugate vaccine was given to the children in the presence of the minister.

The vaccination campaign will continue in urban areas of 22 districts of the province. In this campaign, about 2.8 million children aged between 9 months and 15 years will be vaccinated against typhoid.

Jhagra said that the campaign is being run in those districts of the province where there is a fear of an increase in typhoid cases. He thanked the aid agencies for supporting the government in the campaign and paid tribute to the staff of the health department and all the aid agencies for providing services in other vaccination campaigns, including Covid-19.

He said that flood-affected health centres will be restored by the province itself with its own funds.
