Telegram has cut the monthly subscription fee by half for its premium version in India.

Telegram had recently launched its premium version to cash on its user base. Initially, the paid tier was $4.99 / month. However, the fee has been reduced by more than half for its users in one of its biggest markets, India.

According to TechCrunch, the subscription now costs 179 Indian rupees ($2.2), down from 469 Indian rupees ($5.74) earlier. The new discounted fee option has been made available in the app for users in the South Asian country.

The instant messaging service is quite popular in India as it is the most used messaging app after Whatsapp. The launch of the revised rates is an attempt to capture not only new users but also cash in on the current numbers.

The premium version of the messaging app offers exclusive features, such as, increasing the upload size to 4GB, faster downloads, following up to 1000 channels, adding a fourth account instead of just three, creating up to 20 chat folders with 200 chats each, pin 10 chats, and save up to 10 favourite stickers.
