Separatist group booked for dental clinic attack

KARACHI:

Police on Thursday registered a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act against a banned separatist group for the attack on a dental clinic in Saddar that left one dead and two injured, all of Chinese origin.

Pakistani-Chinese citizen Richard Hu Nu Yuao of Hu Dental Clinic was injured along with his wife Phen Tiyen while his assistant Ronald Raymond Chou was killed when an assailant who came as a patient opened fire on them.

The Counter-Terrorism Department of police registered the FIR under ATA on behalf of the state against Sindhudesh People’s Army (SPA), a coalition of banned Sindhi and Baloch secessionist organisations, which claimed responsibility for the incident on the social media.

Police also obtained more footages of CCTV cameras in the commercial hub of Saddar to join the pieces of the events leading to the incident and afterwards. In one of the footages, the accused is also seen removing his mask. Another CCTV footage shows accused escaping on a motorcycle with his partner.

His companion is also seen wearing a mask to hide his identity. The suspect in the shooting is dressed in a pant shirt and wearing a red P-cap. SSP South Asad Raza said that the injured and the deceased are Pakistani nationals who also have Canadian citizenship.

SSP Asad Raza visited both the injured at a private hospital and assured them of the arrest of the accused involved in the incident. Police on Wednesday night enhanced the security across the metropolis under the directions of Additional Inspector General of Police - Karachi Javed Alam Odho.

According to police officials, the snap checking was being carried out in all zones under the supervision of district SSPs. The snap checking was being carried out at 12 spots in district Malir including National Highway and other sensitive areas. In district Keamari, snap checking was underway at 12 points including Hub River Road, Sher Shah, SITE, Mochko and other areas.

The checking was being supervised by the SSP Keamari and SP Baldia. The SSP Keamari also issued show cause notice to three SHOs for showing negligence in snap checking. The snap checking was being carried out at 8 spots in the city. The subdivisional Police officers, SHOs and personnel of Shaheen Force were taking part in the operation.

Similarly the snap checking process was underway in various areas of district Korangi. The biometric verification of suspects was also being done in the snap checking.
