KARACHI:

The body of a disabled person was found stuffed in a suitcase on a garbage dump near Quaidabad Murghi Khana stop, in Arafat Town, on Tuesday, the day when the bodies of a young woman and a middle-aged man were also discovered in other localities of the city.

The suitcase was thrown on the garbage dump near the TCF School by two women who came there in a car, according to eyewitnesses. A party of Shah Latif Town police station reached the spot as soon as the briefcase dumping was reported to them. They took the briefcase into custody and shifted it to Jinnah hospital.

A spokesperson for Karachi police said that the dead man might be between 30 and 35 years of age. However, they did not find anything in the suitcase or on the body that could help them identify him.

The victim, a crippled man, might have been strangled to death with the help of a dupatta or a rope, the spokesperson said, adding that there was also blood on the mouth and nose of the victim.

According to eyewitnesses, a car driven by a man pulled over close to the garbage dump and two women alighted from it. They dragged out a heavy briefcase from the boot space, looked furtively here and there before throwing it on the garbage dump and driving away.

As soon as the women left, local residents reported the incident to police. A police team reached the site, unlocked the briefcase and found the body stuffed inside. Forensic experts also reached the spot to collect evidence, including fingerprints, on the briefcase.

Police said that CCTV cameras are installed in the area where the body was dumped. Footage from these cameras could help police identify the women and their accomplices.

In a second incident, police recovered a young woman's body from a house in the Sharafi Goth slum of Future Colony, Landhi, on Tuesday.

While sharing details, SHO Sharafi Goth Adeel Shah told The Express Tribune that local residents reported to police that awful stench was emanating from a house in their mohalla. They reached the area, went inside the house and found the woman's body.

He identified the deceased as 32-year-old Samira Iftikhar and said the body appeared to be more than 10 days old. Samira lived alone after leaving her parents' home. Police said they are investigating the incident.

In a third incident, police found the body of a middle-aged man dumped in a street near Saleem Center, New Karachi, and shifted it to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal procedures. Police moved the body to an Edhi mortuary following medico-legal formalities.
