An official of a sensitive agency was shot dead by unidentified armed men in the Doora Chown area of Mardan on Sunday evening.
Kifayatullah, reportedly a sub-inspector with the Intelligence Bureau (IB), was offering evening prayers at a mosque when two men opened fire, killing him and injuring two other worshippers.
The official was shifted to Mardan Medical Complex Hospital following the incident, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The assailants reportedly fled after the attack. Police and other agencies have started an investigation into the attack.
According to reports, the assailants, who opened fire on him, fled the scene soon after, while an investigation by police and other intelligence personnel is currently underway.
The deceased’s funeral prayers were performed earlier today at Police Line Mardan.
Earlier in July, a bomb attack at a police station in Mardan killed one and wounded two others. The attack, which killed the station in charge Maqsood Chawoki, took place at the Chamtar police station on Nisata road.
