Rupinder Magon (Rup), lead singer of international famed band Josh, is making his acting debut in Akshay Kumar starrer Hollywood flick Speedy Singhs releasing on September 19, 2011, according to a statement by the musician’s publicist. With the band’s recent album Beyond Kismat rocking the charts, Rup has found his way to the big screen.

Speedy Singhs revolves around a young Indian-Canadian hockey player and the difficulty he encounters trying to balance the two cultures he has grown up with. His father wants him to work for the family business and devote himself to more religious pastimes, rather than pursuing a career in hockey. The film will be released in two languages.

Rup will be featuring in the film in a comic role as an ice hockey player. The singer has done his homework and underwent three months of rigorous ice hockey training to get into character for the film.

While speaking about his experience, Rup says that, “Music has always been my first love and I am proud of what ‘Q’ (band member Qurram Hussain) and I have been doing together over the years in the arena of music and composing songs. However, very few people know that acting is a field I always dreamed to test myself in and what could be a more ideal opportunity other than to get the role in a Hollywood flick?”

Rup is starred in the film alongside Akshay Kumar, Rob Lowe and Russel Peters. Kumar is the executive producer of the film, which also has cameos of the hip hop superstars Drake and Ludacris.
