Four doctors booked for patient’s death

Police have booked four doctors of a reputed hospital for causing the death of a woman due to medical malpractice.

A citizen, Faiq Ali, filed a case at the New Town Police Station against Dr Shahid Karim, Dr Aziz Abdullah, Dr Barkat Maher and Dr Irfan Ahsan of Four doctors of Liaquat National Hospital on the basis of a report of the Sindh Health Care Commission (SHCC).

Faiq Ali, a resident of Gizri, told The Express Tribune that his mother Huzoor Begum was admitted at Liaquat National Hospital last year due to illness. His mother was suffering from mineral-imbalance for which the hospital’s doctors conducted various tests.

Huzoor Begum remained admitted to the hospital, while doctors diagnosed various diseases. Faiq said the doctors first said his mother’s bladder had become weak and sometimes that would say that her stomach was inflamed. Meanwhile, various tests including MRI was also conductedin, Faiq Ali said, adding, he also contacted the hospital administration but could not get a satisfactory answer.

Eventually, on June 1, 2021, his mother died in the hospital. After her death, he approached SHCC, which conducted an inquiry for a year and finally declared that his mother died of negligence on the part of the doctors and imposed a fine of Rs200,000 on the hospital.

Faiq Ali further said that based on the SHCC report, he approached the Newtown Police and registered a case of the incident.
