Committees at UC level to assess flood losses: Sharjeel

Minister says 17 more deaths have been reported from the flood-affected areas and the number has reached at 724

KARACHI:

Sindh government has formed joint survey committees at the Union Council level to assess the damages caused by recent rains and flash flood in affected areas, said Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Thursday.

“Representatives of district administration, Pakistan Army, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and the secretary of the concerned union council are included in the committees,” he said in a statement.

More than one committee can be formed in any union council considering the scale of flood damage, he said adding that for monitoring the joint survey committees, a district supervisory committee has also been formed.

The district supervisory committee will run under the chairmanship of the deputy commissioner, in which SSP, district military liaison officer, representatives of NDMA, SPARCO, PDMA and Assistant Director Local Government has been included.

Sharjeel said that 17 more deaths have been reported from the flood-affected areas and the number has reached at 724.

He added that 8,422 people have been injured due to recent rains and floods. The minister said that the total number of cattle killed due to rains and floods has reached 313,509. He continued that 1.06 million houses have been partially damaged in floods and rains, while 720,749 have completely collapsed.
