Flyover on railway crossing approved

Aims to facilitate heavy traffic between Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Mianwali and Attock.

RAWALPINDI:

The Punjab government has approved a flyover on the railway crossing at the Islamabad-Rawalpindi-Peshawar junction near Tarnol on GT Road.

The flyover will help facilitate heavy traffic plying between Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Mianwali and Attock.

The project will cost Rs2 billion. Work on the project will be completed in 18 months. Heavy transport and public transport to and from Peshawar, Taxila, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mianwali and Attock use this railway crossing and traffic remains stuck for hours at the railway crossing.

Small and large vehicles line up near the railway crossing for hours from 10pm till morning. A project concept (PC-I) of the project has already been developed.

Former federal minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan said that the state-of-the-art flyover would be completely signal-free.

He said that 20,000 plants and trees will be planted all around the flyover.

He said that there was an urgent and immediate need to eliminate the traffic hold-ups at this junction to provide relief to the road users and to the public of the area.
