ISLAMABAD:

The National Highway Council on Tuesday declared parliamentarians exempt from toll tax.

The NHC lays down national policies and guidelines to be followed by the National Highway Authority in the performance of its functions. It has the power to direct and regulate the affairs of NHA.

According to the NHC, MPs have been granted exemption from toll tax for which a formal notification has also been issued.

Toll tax on Lahore to Islamabad Motorway will not be imposed on the vehicles of parliamentarians. They can introduce themselves and leave.

Earlier, the tax exemption for parliamentarians on the M-2 was abolished, under which they had to pay a fixed toll fee like the general public.
