On Monday, veteran actor Resham shared a clip on Instagram where she was seen throwing off food from the top of a bridge overlooking a large water body to feed the marine life. The clip immediately went viral because along with all the food for the fishes, she threw in the polythene bags, wrappers and plastic utensils inside the water as well and happily drove away in her car.

The video was picked up by reporters and publications lauding her for her “kindness” until people pointed out how catastrophic her actions were for the aqua world. While the video has now been removed from all platforms, and no apology or comment has been shared by Resham, social media is sure to not let it go.

With Resham trending on Twitter, users shared the clip and called the Naagin actor out for being a literate public figure and yet feeding plastic along with a loaf of bread and meat to the fishes while boasting about it. From asking officials to charge her for this “criminal offence” to schooling her about the irreparable consequences of her “kindness,” people flooded the micro-blogging site to bring attention to this matter.

Singer Meesha Shafi and actor Armeena Khan, although without mentioning any names, condemned "throwing groceries and plastic shoppers/trays into a river (also on camera)" no matter how "good" the intentions may be.

A fan, shocked at the renowned actor doing this, tagged her and wrote, “Is this Resham? What is she trying to do? Who is she feeding? Sea Gulls? Marine life? Is she feeding them so that they can live or so that they can die?”

Another took a jibe at how these celebrities with a large following do not realise their general responsibility towards the environment but are also unaware of the influence they hold.

“Their confident throwing of plastic shows that they have no idea about environmental pollution and its harms. This is the general attitude that our earth is suffering and we don't realise it or feel sorry for it!” read the tweet.

More fans suggested that the 58-year-old actor should be “fined” and “charged” for her “criminal” acts. “Resham should be fined for this stupid and insensitive act of ignorance of harming the water life. Why is she feeding water species with bread?” wrote a user.

They also questioned the need to film such gestures. “For God’s sake, why were you recording these videos of feeding life under the water in the first place?”

Users said the video “boiled their blood” and that they expect better from “educated” and “influential” members of society.
