ISLAMABAD:

Predicting elections in the near future, Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Sunday said that it is “not possible” to disqualify Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, “minus” him from the political equation or send him to jail.

The former interior minister said that the by-elections were postponed in 11 constituencies due to fear of the former prime minister’s victory.

He said that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) is fractured and the flood has buried the politics of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). “Now, economic collapse, political instability and inflation will sink them because the people will automatically be on the streets,” he said.

“There will be a food famine in Sindh; there will be no wheat, cotton and sugarcane; help has not even reached Larkana and Nawabshah,” he remarked. “This is why I say that election is the only solution.”

He claimed that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif will not listen to his younger brother, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Rashid criticised the government for rising inflation, saying that electricity and petrol will not get cheaper with Finance Minister Miftah Ismail’s weeping.

His comments came in reference to a video of the finance minister that went viral on social media, wherein the former minister started weeping while talking about economic inequality.

The former federal minister also took the government to task, saying that tension and conflict will create a crisis. “If LCs (letters of credit) are not opened, how will the factories run?” he asked.
