Pakistan values its ties with France: Asif

Ambassador Galey assures of playing role in improving diplomatic cooperation

ISLAMABAD:

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Friday said that Pakistan attached great importance to its ties with France, both bilaterally and in the context of the European Union, based on the principles of mutual respect.

Asif met with France’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nicolas Galey, who called on him at the Defence Ministry, a statement issued by the ministry said. During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, including the regional situation, were discussed.

The minister stressed the need for collaboration in addressing the global challenges, such as terrorism, extremism, was “an important part of our bilateral relations”. He added that Pakistan would continue to work closely with France on all matters of bilateral interest.

Asif said that Pakistan was committed to a stable and peaceful region but for that the resolution of the Kashmir dispute was necessary, adding that Pakistan strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

The ambassador appreciated Pakistan's role in regional stability and assured the minister of playing his role in further improving diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan at all levels, the statement concluded. (With input from APP)
