Imran claims ‘bid to implement minus-1 formula’

PTI chairman says Gujranwala rally on Saturday will be last of the current phase of ‘real freedom movement’

PTI chairman and deposed premier Imran Khan on Friday maintained that the “imported govt” and its “handlers” were so “petrified” that the nation was standing firmly behind his party that they were desperately moving on “minus-1 formula”.

Taking to Twitter, the PTI chief also announced the end of the present phase of his “Haqeeqi Azadi Tehreek” (movement for real freedom).

“Tomorrow our Gujranwala jalsa will be the last of our present phase of Haqeeqi Azadi Movement,” he wrote.

He added that he would share the “next critical phase” of his party’s “movement for real freedom” during his Gujranwala rally on Saturday (today).

The PTI chief had announced the movement against the current rulers in April during a rally at Lahore's Minar-e-Pakistan, terming it the "real freedom movement".

The cricketer-turned-politician was voted out of power through a vote of no-confidence earlier in the year, becoming the first prime minister in the country’s history to be unseated by a parliamentary revolt.

The joint opposition's no-confidence motion, which required 172 votes in the 342-strong parliament to pass, was supported by 174 lawmakers, shaking the political earth of the country with an unprecedented move.

Before Imran's tweet, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry at a news conference said the party would launch its countrywide protests from Saturday.

He urged the entire nation to participate in it.

“It seems like the government doesn’t want to hold elections,” he added.

“There are attempts being made to oust Imran Khan politically. FIRs are being registered against him at a time when there are floods in the country,” Fawad maintained.

The former information minister further claimed that the incumbent government did not have “public mandate”.

“Keeping in view of the political and economic situation, this government cannot be given much time. Pakistan’s politics has entered its final stages,” he added.

PTI leader Asad Umar urged the nation to take to the streets on Saturday to express their solidarity with Imran.

Earlier, Imran claimed that 13 parties had run away from the elections fearing one party, while reacting to the postponement of the by-polls.

A meeting of the political committee of the PTI was held under the chairmanship of Imran, in which the political situation and cases against him were discussed.

According to sources, the PTI decided to protest against inflation and agreed to intensify the ongoing public relations campaign.

While instructing the provincial PTI presidents to protest against inflation, Imran decided that he would continue the scheduled rallies in different cities.

On the occasion, Imran said public support was the party’s biggest strength and it was up against the government’s “negative tactics”.

He added that the aim of his movement was to defeat the mafias of this country.

“Our common citizens have joined the ‘real freedom movement’,” the sources quoted him as saying.
