The University of Health Sciences (UHS) Board of Governors approved a surplus budget of Rs1.889 billion for the financial year 2022-23 on Tuesday.
In a meeting chaired by former chief justice of Pakistan Justice (retd) Tassadeq Hussain Jillani, the board also approved a fund of Rs10 million, donated to the university, for relief work in flood-affected remote areas of Punjab and Sindh.
The board was apprised that university officers and faculty would donate their one day's salary to the flood relief fund.
It set up a committee for flood relief activities with Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Maroof Aziz Khan as its convener, which would submit its recommendations within a week. MNA Andleeb Abbas and a representative of the Punjab specialised healthcare department will also be part of the committee.
The committee will also make recommendations after surveying various sites to deal with the diseases that may spread in the flood-affected areas in coming days.
UHS Treasurer Baquee bin Haneef presented the university's budget to the board, which was unanimously approved. In the budget, Rs1.31 billion has been earmarked for the university's city campus and Rs575.481 million for Jinnah campus at Kala Shah Kaku. A 15 per cent increase in the salary of the employees as ad hoc relief allowance was approved.
The UHS will spend 10% of the total budget on research. An amount of Rs12 million has been allocated for specialised research.
The percentage of the city campus development budget has been kept at 17.94, while Rs20 million has been allocated for student scholarships.
An amount of Rs95 million has been earmarked for the purchase of buses and coasters for students and faculty, while Rs90 million has been allocated for setting up a diagnostic laboratory at the university.
An amount of Rs175 million shall be spent on conducting around 700 examinations during the financial year.
