KARACHI:

Two sisters were found dead in a water tank built inside a house in the Orangi Town on Sunday.

As per the family, both sisters committed suicide over marriage dispute, however, police found the claim dubious and started investigating the incident.

The bodies of Samina Hazrat Gul, 22 and Amina Gul, 20, were found in a water tank inside their home in Faqir Colony, Orangi Town.

Police and rescue workers reached the spot and shifted the bodies to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal proceedings. SSP West Dr Farrukh Raza said that according to the information received by the police, it seemed as if the incident occurred due to a dispute between the deceased girls and their families over the marriage of choice.

SSP Raza, quoting the family members said, there was an altercation between the family members and Samina and Amina over who they wanted to marry. They were locked up in the room built over the underground water tank, the family members told police. Sometime during the night between Saturday and Sunday they jumped into the water tank to commit suicide.

When the family knocked on the door in the morning, it was not opened, which worried the family. Both sisters were found dead in the water tank when they broke the door and entered. Police are further investigating the incident as they saw the incident as mysterious. Police said the investigation had been started from every angle, including the murder. The police will formally record the statements of the families.
