DI KHAN:

Yet another police constable has been shot dead in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Friday.

Constable Zahoorudin was working as driver and currently posted at Chodhawan Police Station.

“He was on his way to duty in the morning on his bike when unidentified motorcycle riders intercepted him and opened fire at him. He died on the spot,” said a police official while talking to The Express Tribune.

He was a resident of Daraban Kalan village. The attackers managed to escape after committing the crime.

“The deceased constable was seriously injured in an IED blast a few months back in Kulachi but he recovered and joined duty. Today he was not that fortunate to survive another attack,” said the official, adding that it was without any doubt a targeted attack carried out by militants.

DI Khan has been one of the most volatile districts of K-P where militancy has a sectarian tone. Every year dozens of attacks take place in the district and police remains the primary target.

The last rites of the slain constable were offered at DI Khan Police Lines with full guard of honour.

Later the coffin was sent to the deceased’s ancestral village for burial.

Police conducted a door-to-door search operation in the area where the attack took place but the attackers had managed to escape after committing the crime.
