GUJRANAWALA:

Officials canceled the registration of 187 welfare organizations, NGOs and charities over not being registered with Punjab Charity Commission (PCC). Unregistered organizations cannot collect any charities and donation and is mandatory for every welfare organization and NGO to have registered themselves with PCC.

Hundreds of NGOs and private welfare organizations are currently working in Gujranwala. In this regard, Registrar and Joint Staff Companies Saira Umar said that the aforementioned registrations were cancelled, citing that under the Societies Registration Act 1860, it is mandatory that all charities collecting charity and donations must be registered with PCC.

The Home Department issued a notification on August 28, 2021, in light of a decision taken in a meeting chaired by ACS Home, stating that until August 31, 2021, operations of all unregistered NGOs and societies will be suspended and they will not be allowed to collect funds.

However, the Ministry of Home Affairs gave three months to charitable trusts, NGOs and welfare societies to register with the PCC. Despite this, the aforementioned NGOs, charitable organizations failed to register within the three month deadline.

Amid the ongoing floods, the world has expressed solidarity with Pakistan, with the United States, the United Kingdom and other nations pledging financial aid.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan held a telethon earlier this week that generated Rs5 billion in funds. Balochistan’s Chief Minister, Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, pledged to donate a portion of his salary to flood victims in Balochistan.
