Army to help construct temporary bridges

PDMA will procure machinery on rent to restore road links in Balochistan

QUETTA:

Balochistan Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) will procure heavy machinery on rent in order to quickly restore the road links in Balochistan and army will help construct temporary bridges as more rains are expected from Wednesday.

This was revealed during a briefing to Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, Commander 12-Corps Lt General Asif Ghafoor, and acting Governor Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali who visited the PDMA headquarters on Tuesday.

They were informed about the state of rescue and relief operation in flood-hit districts of the province.

DG PDMA, Interior Minister Mir Zia Langove, and Chief Secretary Balochistan Abdul Aziz Aqeli were also present at the meeting.

CM visited the control room and call centre where DG PDMA briefed them about current weather conditions and relief activities underway in the province.

Damages done in the flash floods and rescue and relief activities were discussed in detail. They were informed that there were forecasts about more rains in the province from Wednesday that would continue for three days and could result in flooding.

The meeting was informed that to increase the pace of relief activities, communication links must be restored on emergency basis and it was decided that army will provide assistance in building the temporary bridges.

It was also decided that all the small dams that are under high water pressure will be kept under strict supervision.

A collective survey will be conducted to review the damages caused by the floods across the province.

“Torrential rains have wreaked havoc across the province but government is trying its best to reach the affected people and help them,” CM Bizenjo said.
