Consuming milk and meat from cattle infected by Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) is not harmful for humans. This was confirmed by Punjab Livestock Department Director Dr Wajid Zia, while talking to the media on Friday.
Dr Zia added that studies and research turned up no evidence of lumpy skin disease having affected humans, nor had any cases been reported in the country.
"The cattle are affected by bites from insects, such as certain species of flies, mosquitoes and ticks," he stated.
The Director reiterated that mass vaccination was being carried out in the division and teams were meeting farmers and informing them about precautionary measures regarding the disease.
He appealed to farmers to quarantine infected animals for the protection of others.
Meanwhile, two veterinary drug stores were sealed over selling spurious LSD vaccines on Friday.
The additional director sealed the stores after confiscating the spurious medicines, referring their cases to a drug court.
