After being top on charts and on everyone’s tongues for months in Pakistan, India and beyond, Ali Sethi and Shae Gill’s Coke Studio offering Pasoori has now attracted an African audience. In love with the groovy Punjabi number, Coke Studio Africa decided to recreate the song with an amalgamation of voices and beats from Nigeria and Egypt while keeping Sethi’s original lyrics in the remix alive.

Transcending borders since being released, Pasoori has been a global chartbuster and one can only imagine the places it’ll go with this remix. Coke Studio Africa dropped the single on Thursday on YouTube.

Featuring Nigerian Afrobeats, represented by artists Marwan Moussa and Reekado Banks, in collaboration with Sethi, the song offers a unique collision of genres and cultures, as per a press release.

Apart from the addition of a distinctive African touch to the already catchy beat of the Punjabi track, Coke Studio Africa has also blended Egyptian rap elements in between the song. It starts and ends with the Rung singer’s voice, crooning bits of the original lyrics. Sandwiched in between are the Egyptian rap elements brought by rapper Moussa and singer Banks to create a whole new blend. While you may not understand the words of this fusion, there’s no way you can miss the tune and not want to vibe to it.

Elated about the collaboration, Sethi took to Instagram to share the remix with his fans.

Unable to put into words how happy his “little tune” turn into “a whole new song” has made him, he wrote, “Pasoori Afrobeats remix! Can’t describe my elation to see this little tune of mine become a whole new song. Thank you everyone.” Sethi went on to tag all artists and creative bodies involved in the making of this new, upbeat number.

Pasoori has garnered over 330 million views on YouTube since it first came out on February 7 and the song only keeps on giving. It also made its way to Ms Marvel, the first Marvel show to boast Pakistani representation. Being the sixth song to come out of Coke Studio Season 14, Pasoori is written by Sethi and Fazal Abbas, while the composition has been done by Sethi and Zulfiqar J Khan, popularly known as Xulfi. Its music has been produced by Abdullah Siddiqui and Xulfi.
