Capacity of cardiac institute to be doubled

Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid has announced that the number of beds in the Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology will be increased from to 200 from 100 in two months.

Addressing a news conference, the minister said resources had been provided for upgrading the institute.

She said the government was focusing on improving the facilities in the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital and 148 beds would be added under an expansion plan. A new block will be made operational soon.

The provincial minister said the health card was the flagship programme of the Tehreek-e-Insaf government, under which 30 million families of the province could get medical treatment costing up to Rs1 million from the hospitals on the panel.

More than 690 hospitals are on the panel. Replying to questions, Dr Yasmin Rashid said former prime minister Imran Khan would address a rally in Gujrat.

She said Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi's party was an ally of the Tehreek-e-Insaf and had stood by it in every difficulty.

She said the Ehsaas Ration Programme would be implemented rapidly to give financial relief to the deserving people. She said the process of organising the PTI down to the union council level was under way on the instructions of party chairman.
