PESHAWAR:

Lawmakers in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly offered prayers for the speedy recovery of MPA Liaquat Ali Khan, who was injured in an assassination attempt which had left four people travelling with him dead. The house also offered Fateha for the security personnel martyred in recent terrorist attacks.

Liaquat Ali Khan, a ruling PTI MPA, was critically injured and four others, including his brother and nephew, were killed when gunmen ambushed their vehicle which was en route to Nagotal village in Lower Dir District. As the provincial assembly session started on Monday with Deputy Speaker Khushdil Khan in the chair, PPP MPA Nighat Orkazai drew the attention of the house towards the terrorist attack on security forces.

As a result of a cowardly attack by terrorists on Sunday, two Pakistan Army soldiers were martyred, she said. “These attacks will not demoralise us. We should stand firm and united against the nefarious designs of terrorists,” she added. MPA Humayun Khan said that Liaquat Ali and his gunman were injured in the assassination attempt while his brother and nephew were martyred; therefore, prayers may be offered for them in the house. Later, prayers were also offered for the martyrs of Pakistan Army.
