Over 180 truant college lecturers sacked

The department is also reportedly planning to recruit new college teachers

Punjab Higher Education Department has removed 182 college lecturers from service due to prolonged absence from duty.

According to officials, the services of the college teachers have been terminated under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act and the departments concerned have been advised to stop their salary from the current month.

The higher education department officials said all the teachers sacked so far in a major crackdown were male, but action would also be taken against female college lecturers completion of the prescribed procedure.

On the other hand, the department is also reportedly planning to recruit new college teachers and advertisement for the purpose is likely to be issued soon.

The 182 teachers removed in the first phase on Monday were all lecturers serving in pay scale 17. They had been told several times to join their duties.

According to sources, the higher education department had received complaints of the effect on the results of the students of the absence of teachers, especially of science subjects.
