Around 3,036 animals died in recent monsoon rains, flood

The recent rains and resultant floods claimed 85 lives and caused damage to over 10,797 houses. Around 401,970 acres of land was inundated from June 15 to July 30, according to a report issued by the Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). The report, which reveals statistics on deaths, damages and arrangements in the wake of rains and floods, says that 85 people, including women and children, died in various incidents in one and a half months while 28 deaths were directly caused by the flood.


Similarly, at least 28 people were seriously injured by the flood and 79 sustained injuries during the monsoon spell.


Meanwhile, rescue teams have safely evacuated 2462 people from the flood-ravaged areas and 7819 people have been provided treatment facilities in the flood relief camps.

Around 29 relief camps have been set up in Mianwali and Dera Ghazi Khan division, the report further said, adding that at least 176 families are living in the flood relief camps. It said that facilities, including meals three times a day and clean water, are being provided to all the affectees in the relief camps.

According to the report, 3036 animals died in the recent monsoon rains and the ensuing floods. During the relief operations, 501 animals were rescued from the flooded areas.


Six relief camps have been set up for the victims’ animals housing 169 animals while 54,000 animals of flood victims have been vaccinated against diseases.


The report further shared that bags containing dry rations for one month have also been distributed to 2617 households so far and tents were also distributed to 2666 households.


"Sixty-one boats and 444 rescuers participated in the rescue relief operation which kicked off in time, and all resources were utilised to provide relief to the people,” the PDMA said in the report.Home Feature 1, Home Pakistan, Pakistan (National Page)
