CM wants financial aid to reach flood-affected people without delay

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has announced financial assistance to help repair the houses damaged by flood in South Punjab. The owner of each destroyed house will be paid Rs600,000 and of damaged home Rs400,000 for the reconstruction and repair work.

The chief minister said while presiding over a meeting on Monday that the losses incurred by livestock owners would also be compensated. The meeting was held to review the flood situation and relief activities in Rajanpur, Muzaffargarh and Dera Ghazi Khan, especially Taunsa.

He directed the deputy commissioners to complete the damage assessment surveys under their own supervision while keeping the process simple and taking on board the local representatives. The chief minister emphasised that the affected people should not suffer any inconvenience during the survey process.

The financial assistance should reach the affected people without delay, he asserted.

The chief minister said the relief activities should be intensified and dry food should be continuously delivered to the affected population.

He said the flow of rivers should be continuously monitored while taking steps to fortify the embankments. The necessary resources and machinery should be used for the maintenance of link roads in the affected areas.

The chief minister said he would visit the flood-hit areas of Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan on Tuesday to review the situation. The rehabilitation of the affected people is hos priority, he added. He will also meet flood-affected people during the visit.

Legislators Amina Jafari, Mohsin Leghari, Saifuddin Khosa, Awais Dareshak, Farooq Amanullah, Ahmad Ali Khan, Mohiuddin Khosa, Abdul Hai Dasti, Javed Akhtar, Daud Solemani, Ashraf Rind, Niaz Hussain, Alamdar Abbas, Aun Hameed, Raza Bukhari, Moazzam Ali Khan and Nawabzada Mansoor Ahmad attended the meeting along with senior officials. The senior member of the Board of Revenue, divisional commissioners, director general of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority and deputy commissioners of Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur and DG Khan participated through video link.

Addressing another meeting, Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi ordered a campaign to overcome dengue spread in the wake of the ongoing monsoon season.

He said there should be effective monitoring and accurate reporting of the anti-dengue activities and trained staff should be hired to run the drive. The full focus should be on clinical management and anti-dengue teams be mobilised at the grassroots to achieve results.

The teams should conduct regular visits and indoor and outdoor surveillance should be given special attention, the CM added. Anti-dengue activities should not be limited to Lahore, but every city in the province and breeding spots of dengue mosquitoes should be eradicated, he stressed.

A strong awareness campaign should be conducted, the CM said. The hospitals should have the best treatment arrangements for treating dengue patients, he concluded.

The health secretary briefed the participants about measures to control dengue.

The chief minister also approved expansion of the Rescue 1122 service to all the tehsils of the province. He announced that the emergency service would be expanded to 86 more tehsils this year. The motorbike rescue service would also be extended to 27 more districts in 2022, he added.

Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi maintained that his government had started the rescue service, which was a worthwhile and commendable institution of the province.
