Federal Minister of Climate Change Senator Sherry Rehman on Monday visited the Korangi Causeway and reiterated the government assurance of building a bridge there.

Many people have died while scores of cars and motorcycles have been washed away by seasonal torrents on Korangi Causeway during rains over the past few years.

Rehman, talking to the media said Prime Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has formed a special committee to assess damages caused by the recent rains in the country. She expressed these views while talking to media after holding a meeting with Karachi commissioner and other officials of the metropolitan city on Monday.

The six-member committee comprising Sherry Rehman, Syed Aminul Haque, Abid Hussain Bhayo and three MNAs, Kesoo Mal Kheeal Das, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah and Mir Amer Ali Khan Magsi was on the visit to different cities of Sindh to compile report on the damages caused by the recent rains.

"We have three days to submit the report on which the government will devise compensation policy," Sherry said.

She said that there were some remote areas in the province where the media could not reach and we were going there and would meet the people. Besides, the PDMA and other agencies are working to provide the food and other support to victims affected by the recent rains.

Administrator Karachi, Murtaza Wahab informed the meeting that the underpasses had been inundated in the city and the standing water had been drained out.
