At least six people were killed and seven injured in torrential rains and rain-induced incidents across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) in the past 24 hours.
As per the Rescue 1122, two people were killed and four critically injured when a roof collapsed in Takhatbahi, Mardan.
“Numan, 14, and his sister Romesa, three, were killed on the spot while their mother and three sisters were critically injured,” said an official of Rescue 1122 while talking to The Express Tribune.
The injured were rushed to the nearby hospital where their condition is stated to be serious. “The roof was in bad shape and it suddenly caved in on the poor families. Six people were trapped in the debris. They were rescued by two of them were dead by them,” he said.
In Jamrud area of Khyber tribal district, the roof of a house caved in suddenly due to heavy rain fall.
“Five people were trapped under the debris. They were taken out and shifted to the hospital but a mother and her son had succumbed to their injuries,” he said.
By the same token, a three year old Wajid was electrocuted to death in Palosai, Swabi.
He was rushed to the hospital where doctors confirmed his death. The child touched a wet wire while playing and got severe electric shock which he could not survived.
Similarly, in Dagai area of Swabi a child drowned in a flooded nullah. Rescue 1122 teams were unable to recover his body despite hectic efforts. K-P Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in a report has confirmed three death and seven injuries.
It says that five houses have been destroyed and 15 damaged.
“Rescue and relief efforts are underway in Buner and Dir Lower. Currently there is medium flood in Jindi River in Charsadda while all other rivers are in normal flow,” the report adds.
“Deputy commissioner DI Khan has ordered to prevent the flood water entry in Paharpur at all costs and the officials are working full blast in this regard,” said an official.
