Plea filed to reopen rain disaster probe

The current weather situation across the city has raised many questions

A petition has been filed to reopen a two-year-old case related to impartial investigation into poor management during monsoon rains.

Justice Helpline head Nadeem Sheikh Advocate has made sindh chief secretary, secretary local government, administrators of district municipal corporation, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, heads of Cantonment Boards, federal and provincial disaster management authorities, Pakistan Meteorological Department and others respondents.

Sheikh took the position that gutters are overflowing in the whole city including the Sindh High Court and sewage has entered commercial and residential buildings all over the city.

The petition said that citizens have suffered losses worth millions of rupees.

The government representatives are just reporting that everything is fine through the media.

Two years ago Sindh Additional Secretary Relief told the Supreme Court that work on various projects will begin with the federal government at a cost of Rs1,100 billion. However, no project could be started. Therefore, it is requested to investigate the rain disaster in Karachi.
