Two men gunned down

Victims were involved in a court case that had been going on since a few years

VEHARI:

Unknown suspects gunned down two men who were on their way to appear at a court hearing within the limits of the Saddar Police Station, police said.

The suspects fled in a car after the incident, while the police took the bodies into custody and sent them for postmortem, they said.

The victims had been embroiled in a dispute over extraction of honey from the private property of some people for the past several years.

This dispute has claimed four lives so far while several others have been injured.

In the current incident, police sources said that Muhammad Yaqoob and Chaudhry Shahnawaz, who were cousins, had been on their way to Vehari for the court hearing.

At about 8:00 a.m., they were ambushed near the Mohsin Shah Bridge on Ludon Road by unidentified people. Shah Nawaz died on the spot while Yaqoob, though critically injured, still had some life in him, and he tried to crawl to safety, but assailants fired some more shots at him, and he too died on the spot. The assailants fled in a car.

DSP Mian Abdul Rauf and the SHO of Saddar Police Station, Mohammad Abbas Nafri, arrived at the scene of the crime and supervised the shifting of the bodies to the hospital for postmortem.
