Teen mother’s suicide termed murder

KARACHI:

A teenaged mother allegedly committed suicide under mysterious circumstances at her home in Korangi Dhai Number on Sunday. Rizwan Rajput, father of 18-year-old Mahnoor, alleged that his daughter has been murdered by her husband.

According to details, the body was found with a rope tied around her neck at a house, located in Pahari Street, in Zaman Town area of Korangi Dhai Number. The body was shifted to the Jinnah hospital in an ambulance.

Zahid Lodhi, SHO Zaman Town police station, said on the basis of preliminary investigations that it was suicide case and the 18-year-old Mahnoor, mother of a child, had hanged herself to death. However, he said that the post-mortem report would establish the cause of death.

Mahnoor's father told police that he had married off his daughter to Muhammad Faiz, alias Kalu, three years ago and the couple had an eight-month-old child. Rajput further said that he had spoken to his daughter on the mobile phone a day before the incident. She complained to her father that Kalu tortured her. Rajput asked his daughter to leave her husband and return home.

When Mahnoor did not return, her parents went to her in-laws where they found her body hanging from a ceiling fan. They brought down the body, put it in a rickshaw and took it to their home, located in Sunar Gali, Korangi No 6.

They reported the incident to police which shifted the body to the Jinnah hospital for autopsy. Rajput claimed that his daughter was strangled to death by his son-in-law before her body was hung from a ceiling fan to show it as a suicide. He said that he would file a murder against his son-in-law and his accomplices.
