Flood ravages Dera Ghazi Khan

One dies in roof collapse incident; landslides sever road link to hilly areas

The intensity of monsoon rains has increased in Dera Ghazi Khan and its surroundings as well as on Mount Sulaiman, leading to floods.

Landslides disconnected hilly areas from other areas. Heavy machinery was called in to clear the road.

Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and Commandant of the Border Military Police reached the spot.

Instructions were issued to monitor relief operations and to move the affected people to safer places.

Rains are expected to continue for another 10 days. Emergency has been imposed in the Dera division.

A flood relief camp has been set up, and tents and other essentials are being supplied to the victims.

One woman died and two others were injured due to the collapse of roofs at different places.

A number of animals were also killed when the roof of a cattle farm caved in.

Torrential rains have been continuing in all the suburbs of Dera Ghazi Khan for the past two days, due to which the torrents from Mount Sulaiman have flooded the area.

Over 8,000 cusecs of water was recorded at Rod Koh Hawa, while 6,751 cusecs were recorded at Rod Koh Sanghar, 6,008 at Koda, 3,000 at Suri, 900 at Rod Koh Door.

Further intensification of rains is expected to increase the intensity of flash floods in the Hill Torrent.

Dozens of settlements and crops on the banks of Hill Torrent have also been submerged and crops have been damaged due to the flash flood.

In view of the emergency situation, the district administration has issued a rain alert and imposed emergency and all the machinery for draining out water has been made functional. Landslides have occurred at different places on Baghl Char, Talian, Ronghan Road.

Deputy Commissioner of Dera Ghazi Khan Mohammad Anwar Briyar has deployed field staff of revenue in Basti Wadani, Noor Wah and other areas near Sakhi Sarwar River on the report of flash flood in Rud Kohi Vador.

He has directed continuous monitoring and said that the administration should remain alert to deal with any situation.

Meanwhile, Rajanpur Deputy Commissioner Jameel Ahmad Laskani reached North Miranpur Town.After assessing the flood situation, he has started emergency relief operations.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Dera Ghazi Khan Muhammad Anwar Briar has closed the canal in view of rising water level and fear of crack in Nala Dhangana.

On the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner, the field staff has started patrolling to monitor the situation of Nala Dhangana near Kot Chhata District.

Commissioner Muhammad Anwar Briar told The Express Tribune that at present there is normal-to-medium level flood in the river valleys of Koda, Wahwa, Sanghar, Surilund, Vador, Sakhi Sarwar and Mathaon.

Describing the incident in which a woman was killed during a roof collapse, rescue sources said the roof of the house collapsed due to rain on Sarwarwali Multan Road. As soon as the incident was reported, rescue personnel reached the spot, but 75-year-old Shahro Mai, wife of Ghazi Muhammad, died under the debris.

Similarly, the roof of a house collapsed due to heavy rain at Taunsa Sharif Nadi North, and a woman Kulsoom Bibi was injured under the debris, who was immediately shifted to the hospital.
