Four men, including two brothers, allegedly shot dead the wife of a former schoolteacher due to resentment over not voting for the candidate supported by them in the recent by-elections of Punjab Assembly.
The police handed over the body to the heirs after the post-mortem, registered a case against the suspects, including a man and his sons, allegedly involved in the crime and raided several places for their arrest.
Retired schoolteacher Tajamal Abbas, resident of Chak 186 RB, Dogranwala, told the police that he had voted for Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate Ajmal Cheema in the by-elections in the constituency PP-97.
He alleged that the suspects Jahanzeb, Shahzeb, their father Muhammad Ahsan and Muhammad Mohsin got annoyed and had a heated argument with him over not supporting their candidate.
He went on to say that, out of anger, the suspects came outside his house at 5am on motorbikes and started indiscriminate firing. His wife Munza Nisa ran to close the main gate of the house but Jahanzeb opened fire with a Kalashnikov, as a result of which she got injured, while the other suspects continued firing on the gate and walls.
A car parked in the house was also hit by bullets.
The complainant said his wife was shifted to Allied Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Chak Jhumra police took the body into custody and handed it over to the family of the deceased after her autopsy in the hospital.
The police registered a case against the suspects nominated in the complaint under Sections 302, 427 and 34 of the Criminal Code.
Chak Jhumra SHO Mian Wajid told reporters that the suspects and the plaintiff had a bitter altercation over supporting candidates in the by-elections.
He said that, in order to take revenge, the suspects had opened indiscriminate fire at Hussain’s house, during which a bullet fatally hit his wife.
