ISLAMABAD:

Amazon has provided a wider market to the sellers and buyers and they should capitalise on the opportunity provided by this e-commerce platform to achieve better growth of business, said Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Muhammad Shakeel Munir.

He pointed out that the global e-commerce market was projected to cross $5 trillion in 2022 while online retail sales would surpass $6 trillion in 2023, therefore Pakistani business community should try to capture a better share in the growing market to boost trade and exports. Munir was speaking at a training session on e-business on Amazon platform organised by the ICCI in collaboration with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP).

He highlighted that Pakistan’s e-commerce market was likely to cross $7 billion in 2022 and $9 billion by 2025, which showed that the country was emerging as a promising market for online business.

Furthermore, the Covid-19 pandemic has created many new opportunities for growth of e-commerce as offline businesses suffered losses and online businesses grew significantly.

“Traders should not make any compromise on the quality of products during online sales so that consumers could continue to have confidence in them,” he stressed.

The ICCI chief urged the government to further expand the information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure across the country and ensure uninterrupted power supply as e-commerce and online business could not grow in an environment of frequent power shutdowns.

The session was attended by the representatives of trading community where TDAP Assistant Director Adil Mukhtar gave a presentation on the Amazon seller registration procedure, product projection and account management.
