Ramsha Khan shares acting journey from flop film 'Thora Jee Le' to hit-drama 'Hum Tum'
Ramsha Khan made her acting debut in 2017 with Thora Jee Le, a film that didn’t fare too well at the box office. But that didn’t stop the starlet from pursuing a career in acting. She went on to feature in a number of television serials, and got her big break in 2020 with Ghissi Pitti Mohabbat.
The Sinf-e-Aahan actor has now in an interview with Masala, opened up venturing into the profession, the hurdles she faced, and what made her take it seriously.
“It all started as a hobby with modelling, just to make some money while I studied. But with time it became something I actually enjoyed. To be honest, I’ve only started taking my career seriously in the last one year. Now, it’s not just something I do for fun to pay the bills,” she told the outlet.
About how she stumbled upon Thora Jee Le, Ramsha shared, “I had auditioned for the role and got the part. Just like every gig in my life at that time – it was fun and an adventure with some like-minded people who were also working on their first project – including our producer and director Rafay Rashdi. It came and went and I just moved on.”
Provided that she was not very emotionally invested in her career at the beginning, the film’s failure thankfully did not take a toll on her. “It did not hit me that hard emotionally. But maybe from that phase, I was just slowly learning to get where I am today – someone who makes mindful choices when it comes to the work I sign up for.”
As for saying yes to Ghisi Pitti Mohabbat’s, which became an astounding success, Ramsha shared, “From the moment Abdullah Seja, the producer, narrated the script to me, I just knew it was a game-changing project! Totally mindful that it could go either way – the audience would either totally love it or totally hate it. I signed on to this script for the challenge of playing something totally different on TV.”
Another role, that recently propelled Ramsha to bigger heights and made her shine on the small screen is Pariwash from Sinf-e-Aahan. The actor plays a Baloch girl with exceptional shooting skills, discouraged by the people around her to pursue a “man’s dream”, despite which, she becomes a part of the army.
Ramsha was also seen doing a bunch of stunts alongside her female co-stars Syra Yousuf, Kubra Khan, Sajjal Aly, among others. But about the intricacies of her role and how she made it her own, the actor delved, “In terms of prep, I feel there were certain critical things for me. Firstly, it was the accent, because she was educated in the city and she couldn’t be speaking hardcore Balochi but had to have a minor undertone. Secondly, it was shooting in PMA (Pakistan Military Academy), Kakul, surrounded by actual cadets and out of my natural habitat (Karachi) and living the military life for a good three months straight.”
Ramsha, albeit, enjoyed working “with one of the best directors in the country.” She added, “Nadeem Baig, the biggest production team and sharing the screen with the finest and best actors of the country, Sinf-e-Ahan will always be a very precious part of my acting journey.”
When asked about working with the crème de la crème of the industry in the show and whether she felt conscious, Ramsha maintained, “In all honesty, all of us shared an amazing bond and camaraderie on the shoot and during the off times in the evening. There was no competition, we all had our parts to play on screen and in the evening, we just hung out in each other’s rooms. We talked and cried over the aches and pains. It was a physically intense shoot and honestly, we were all focused on giving our best.”
Ramsha also opened up about playing Neha in Hum Tum, and becoming friends with Ahad Raza Mir in the process. “I can honestly say Hum Tum was the toughest shoot of my life – even leaving behind the gun shooting or training for Sinf-e-Ahan. We had no days off. I felt like I was either living Neha or coming home to crash to sleep and then going back to being Neha. It was an experience of a lifetime and not an easy one.”
She added, “I think I can personally relate to Neha because of her independence, her perspective on how girls should be living their life on their own terms and her unconditional love for family. I also made some great friendships and bonds from this show with Ahad Raza Mir, Junaid Khan, Sarah Khan and everyone else!” Ahad and Ramsha’s onscreen chemistry in the show became the talk of the town after the show came out.
About there being any projects or films in the pipeline, Ramsha confessed she is “taking one day at a time.” And upon being told about how Pakistani stars are making their international debuts, the celebrity shared she has similar aspirations but likes to leave things to chance.
“Wishes and aspirations, why not. I am an actor and having finally accepted it, if anything good comes my way, I’m totally open to auditioning for a chance. I am all about where life takes me and what comes my way,” she concluded.
