VEHARI:

A man who had been visiting his family on holidays from Saudi Arabia died when an allegedly rashly-driven bus ploughed into his car at Ada Zaheer Nagar on Burewala Road, police said.

According to Rescue 1122 sources, Abdul Qayyum and his family met with the accident when they had been on their way back home to Vehari from Multan where they had gone to see some of their relatives.

Qayyum had stopped by at Ada Zaheer Nagar to buy some fruit. Before he could step off his car, the bus ploughed into his vehicle, killing him on the spot while injuring his wife and their four children -- Mohammad Sufiyan, 14, Mohammad Rehan, 10, Mohammad Rizwan, 15, and Ashar, 8.

The condition of Rizwan, Sufiyan and Ashar was stated to be critical.

They were taken to the Nishtar Hospital in Multan.

Police said the bus driver had over accelerated in order to overtake another bus in sheer disregard for the safety of other vehicles.

Unfortunately the ill-fated family had to pay the price for the bus driver’s alleged callousness.
