Stop shop: Encroachment drive postponed

KHANEWAL: Local traders have appealed to the government to delay the operation against encroachments till Eid.

According to several tehsil officials, the operation has been postponed because the drive was affecting Eid shoppers in the district. Tehsil Municipal Officer (TMO) Muzaffar Baig supervised the operation against encroachers and decided to remove encroachments on Ayub Road, Akbar Road and along Faiz Bazaar.

Local traders expressed resentment against the operation and appealed to the government to delay the drive.

“The encroachment drive has meant that there are construction materials scattered all over the main roads and it is hard to cross as so many roads are blocked. It needed to be postponed till after Eid as it was becoming a nuisance to go to the market,” said a resident, Saleem.
