KARACHI:

A petition was filed in the Sindh High Court on Tuesday against a ban on camel and horse riding on the Sea View beach.

The petition was filed by Ava Ardeshir Cowasjee challenging the ban which was imposed on July 24 by the Clifton Cantonment Board (CBC) following alleged extortion of a foreign tourist by a horse owner on March 19.

The petitioner said that camel and horse riding was allowed on all beaches of the city except Sea View beach. Banning such recreation on the basis of one incident is illegal, according to the petitioner. The CBC has no power to impose such a ban.

The Secretary Defence, Government of Sindh, DHA and CBC officials have been made respondents by the petitioner who demanded immediate removal of the ban on horse and camel riding.

SHC approved the request of Dania Shah, the third wife of deceased televangelist and politician Aamir Liaquat, to be made a party in the case regarding his autopsy and ordered the relevant parties to prepare for it.

Dania requested the high court to conduct his post-mortem in front of the SHC bench comprising Justice Mohammad Iqbal Kalhoro and Justice Kausar Sultana Hussain.

Justice Kalhoro questioned why the television host’s children were objecting to the autopsy, maintaining that without one, no one will know what happened to Aamir Liaquat.

Responding to Zia Awan’s comment that former premier Benazir Bhutto did not have an autopsy, the court remarked that everyone still regrets that a post-mortem was not conducted for her.
