Govt cannot register cases against MNAs: Sanaullah

Rana Sanaullah says it is the duty of the election commission to lodge complaints against assembly members with fake degrees.

Express June 25, 2010

LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that it is the duty of the election commission to lodge a complaint against assembly members who possess fake degrees. The law minister added that degrees are not required to sit in current assemblies.

Speaking outside the Punjab Assembly on Friday, Sanaullah said the Punjab Government cannot get cases registered against MNAs with fake degrees. He feared that a new conflict might trigger off if the provincial government lodges cases, as those accused of forgery belong to different political parties.

The Supreme Court on Thursday had directed the Election Commission to carry out criminal prosecution against parliamentarians having bogus educational degrees.
